One of the most exciting parts of getting engaged is choosing your favorite people in the world to stand at the altar with you as you say your “I do’s”…
Then… you realize you’re the most popular girl in the world and you have bffs galore to choose from. There’s siblings, cousins, your lifelong best friend you only see on occasion, your fav coworker, your friends you spend every day with, and the list goes on and on!
This might seem daunting but no worries—we’re here to walk you through all the steps of your bride tribe selection!
Give Yourself A Grace Period
Your wedding day is something you’ve been dreaming about for probably ever and is meant to be an enjoyed experience rather than a stressful hassle. While it may be tempting to ask your besties to be in your bridal party the minute you get engaged, you can’t “un-ask” after the fact so waiting a month or two will not hurt anyone if your wedding is NOT fast approaching.
Take some time to just be engaged to your fiance while you think about who you want to share your special day with.
Wait Until You Know Your Wedding Date
As you will soon realize there is a strict timeline to follow in the wedding industry, and it’s best to know if your potential bridesmaids can accommodate this schedule.
If your wedding date just so happens to fall in peak wedding season (June-September) beware of longer delivery times due to high demands in dress production. On average your bridesmaid dresses should be ordered 6-9 months before your wedding, this can also help to avoid rush fees which can become costly.
Most dresses within the bridal industry are made in China, and during Chinese New Year (which starts at the beginning of February with the celebration continuing for up to three weeks) the dress factories close for the holiday… Who doesn’t want a 3-week vacation am I right or am I right? But just because production stops it doesn’t mean the orders do, so make sure to budget a little extra time if you plan to order your dresses around this holiday.
A little fun fact for you, just so you know you’re in good hands at Fantastic Finds: The buying team has personally selected reliable designers and producers to make sure we are getting the most unique and best quality dresses possible for your selection!
Decide On A “Look” For Your Wedding
Let me tell you right now, there are a MILLION options when it comes to bridesmaids dresses.
Do you want long dresses or short dresses? Do you want all your girls to be wearing the same dress or do you go with the trending mix & match bridesmaids look? What fabric do you choose? Do you want that glam sparkle while they stand next to you on your wedding day? The list is virtually never-ending really…
Maybe you’re looking for a relaxed, vintage look for your big day or maybe you’re on the hunt for that flowy dress covered in lace. Perhaps you’re throwing a winter wonderland wedding and you want long sleeves and satin, or you want a tulle skirt to match the look of your bridal attire. All options come with ranging costs so it’s definitely something to think about when determining the look for your nuptials.
If you decide to go with the mix & match look there can definitely be some perks! This allows for your bridesmaids to choose a style that makes them feel as amazing as you know they are. Plus Fantastic Finds has fabric swatches in just about every color imaginable so you’ll know that you’re getting the perfect array of hues in your bridal party.

Don’t Forget About The Mula
Regardless of what you want your bridal party to look like, keep in mind a realistic budget based on your vision for the look of your wedding. You can’t expect your besties to say yes when you finally pop that “will you be my bridesmaid” when they don’t know what they’re getting themselves into!
Let’s say you want the higher end look and that means a dress with lots of details. Those babies (although STUNNING) tend to come with a higher price tag than a simpler chiffon dress. Then you may need to ask yourself if you’re willing to spend some of your wedding budget contributing to that cost if it happens to be out of their price range. On top of the cost of the dress, your bridesmaids will also need to have alterations for that perfect fit, which is an additional expense.
When asking your bridesmaids to purchase their dress, try to avoid times when they are already forking out the cash for things like holiday seasons or college expenses. It could definitely put some limits on how much extra money they have laying around for a fancy dress.
Whatever the case may be, come up with a budget ahead of time so your ladies won’t be blindsided when it comes time to pay for their gowns and make sure your future bridal squad knows to bring their wallets to the appointment as payment in full is required to get their dress ordered!
Consider All Your Options
Once you’ve finally worked out a few details it’s time to start asking your gal pals to take part in one of the most magical times of your life. Here are a few tips for the taking when it comes to the selection process:
1. Think about how many people you actually want in your bridal party. Does it fit the venue? How many Groomsmen will there be? Do you want to have a huge party or do you want a select few?
2. Not to sound like a mom here, but consider asking your sisters and your future sister-in-law. They will likely be in your life past the 10 year mark and chances are you’ll get closer over time.
3. If you want a super involved wedding party you may want to consider their stage of life at the time of your big day. They might be trying to start a family, be busy with school or work, live far away, or just have a hectic schedule.
